lately.

Well since I clearly have a hard time committing to a regular blogging schedule, I decided to just do it whenever I can. There has been a lot going on over the last few months, so I'll fill you all in on some of the memories.

March

Girl talk for St.Patrick's day.

Cabo San Lucas

Creating our own Spring Break...aka Cougar-cation.

April

Blazer Playoff Game.

Yes it was the game where the Blazers came back from a 20pt deficit.

April

Mother's Day with my lovely sister and Cousins.

June

Dinner with the Ladies, and Nicole and Sarah's Birthday!

Needless to say I am looking forward to the many adventures that this summer has in store!

that's what i'm talking about.

Since this Winter has been a bust, I felt like a little Spring cheer was in order.

I am vacationing with my girlfriends in March, and needless to say I am already thinking about the fabulous duds that I can dawn on the beach and wherever else we may venture in Mexico. For that matter, I am just looking forward to adding my own spin to these combinations and wearing them around all over...portland too...

I love the simplistic bohemian feel this exudes without appearing to planned and forced.

Drew Barrymore has a way with clothes that most strive to have...effortless beauty.

Another lady who seems to understand what works for her...well most of the time...is Jennifer Love Hewitt. I could for sure see myself running errands, meeting up with friends and enjoying the day in this chic yet relaxed ensemble.

I don't know if it is the classic style and the unconventional presentation of this white button up, or simply the fact that Kim Kardashian is great at pairing items, but this is an outfit that anyone of any age could rock...and rock hard.

You wouldn't expect the booties to be a part of this getup, but they put the icing on the cake. The flawless make-up also lends itself to her final look...love the glow she has.

One thing I have been loving is Vanessa Hudgens nail color choices. I even tried my own color combination and received many complements.

This is her fun and sassy sea foam green and gold. What combination are you going to try?

Ok so most of the outfits are more appropriate for my daily life in Portland, and are a little too bundled for the mexican coast. I guess that just means I better keep looking for the perfect items to fill up my luggage, and of course keep finding ideas that I can use my full closet for:)

hi again...i swear i didn't forget about you!

I am so sorry for my blogging absence. Time seems to slip away so fast! I thought that with the holidays now upon us I would re-start my blogging with my favorite time of year:)

As many of you know I love Christmas, and all of the sparkle and shine of the season pretty much consumes me. I wanted to share a few of my favorite things about this Christmas season so far.

...The Singing Christmas Tree...

{via}

I couldn't think of a more amazing way to get in the holiday spirit. The entire tree is filled with people, as well as the stage, singing all of the best Christmas songs. New, since the last time I had attended, was the dance performances by the Jefferson dancers, which made the show even more beautiful. I also had the privilege of going with my Grandma, we both had a great time together..not a surprise at all:)

GLEE
the Christmas album

I broke down and bought the album from iTunes...couldn't resist... 2 of my favorite things all wrapped into one!

Elf

I love you...I love you...I loveeeee you...

Such a cotton-headed ninnymuggins!

Some great music, lots of laughs and a movie to make you feel magical, sounds splendid to me!

*Cookie Clause*

{via}

Since we started a new tradition last year, annual cookie baking/swap, I thought it quite necessary for me to have a festive and occasion appropriate apron to wear:)

I would love to hear about some of the magical and memorable things that help you become filled with joy and happiness during the most wonderful time of the year.

well hello again...

So the last few weeks have gotten away from me so extremely fast. With leaving my old class and joining my new kiddos, there has been little time for rest. I am however really really liking my new class...thank goodness! I haven't ever changed this many diapers, but that is the one bummer, and I am already developing an immunity to them...hehe. I miss everyone at my old center, but I am loving all of my new co-workers. I think this was the perfect move for me:)
Happy Easter to all of you too! I am going to spend a lovely afternoon with my family...egg hunts...good food...wine...some chocolate candy, should be awesome.
Anyway...I am going to try....really really really hard to not be such a stranger!
Until next time...
XOXO,
Sassy Courtney

a new adventure

So last week I accepted a new job!!! I am still working for the same company, it is just at a different school. This is sure to be a bittersweet journey. I am going to be the lead teacher in the Toddler room, which is the classroom filled with children ranging from 2-3 years old. The new room I am going to be in is beautiful too, it has lots of natural light and plenty of space for the children to explore. Of course I am sad that I will not be downtown, with the children and families I love so much, but there are going to be lots of memories made at my new school. I still have the rest of this week and all of next week to enjoy with my Preschoolers, so I am really trying to take every moment in. I will be sure and let you all know how this journey goes :)

On another note...Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

This is the cutout detailing around the bottom of my skirt...so fun and girly!

Seeing everyone decked out in green is awesome...well only if it isn't Uof O gear;) I am wearing one of my favorite green articles of clothing today, a dainty and high waisted skirt.I am hoping that the skirt will help me on my mission to make spring come sooner rather than later. Hope you all have a great day, and get to enjoy the spirit of the day!

Sassy Courtney

appreciated...yes in deed!

sweet treats to tell someone they are lovely and unique...

For some odd reason I have always loved Buddhas...I am not Buddhist, but something about them really appeals to me. It probably is the fact that no matter what, I will always have a smaller belly than a "Big Belly Buddha," hehe. I found these silly Buddha figurines at Urbanoutfitters and thought that they would make a cute little gift to give someone as an 'out of the blue' treat to make them feel special.

I love to visit my Grammie, and sometimes I even bring her some flowers just because I think she is FABULOUS! This would be the cutest vase set to bring someone on a visit to their house. It is clean but functional and really highlights the natural beauty of the flowers it is showcasing.

{Via}

At only $24 I think this is a precious gift for girls of all ages. This would be lovely in a baby's room, or in a chic girls apartment. The details really make this a piece unique, and I'm sure any one who receives this as a gift will feel equally as special.

A thoughtful note is also a nice way to let those who mean a lot to you just exactly how much you really appreciate them. One of my previous students gave me a card from egg press and I thought that it was so cute and quirky. This is one of their newest creations for 2010.

Cheers to good friends, blog friends and family!

the things kids say...

So as many of you know by now I am a preschool teacher. Since I am a teacher I am surrounded by amazing children all day long. I hear some of the funniest things I have ever heard, as you can imagine, when I am with them. Today has been no exception either.

"Teacher Christine, When I see a cigarette I don't smoke it."

-H age: 3

I know right?!?

How do they think of these things. I guess that is the beauty of being a teacher, with each new day comes new and exciting adventures!

Cheers to being a teacher!

a few of my favorite things

My friend Lauren over at The Little Things We Do does a blog every once in a while about a select few of her favorite things around her home. I thought that I'd give it a go, and share with all of you a few of the items I have that I love love love.
words of wisdom...
I have had this framed card in my room for a while now, and I'd like to say it is always there if I'm in need of encouragement.
I also really love the stack of books and the vintage cigar box the frame lives on, it is cluttered but relaxed and clean.

a creative gift...

Lauren at the little things, made me this amazing jewelry stand. It was constructed using two vintage plates and a vintage glass cup. I love that I can set it out with a few fun pieces of jewelry to create a charming and whimsical touch to my bedroom.

All in form...

The mere fact that these are miniature dress forms makes me happy, but the fact that they are classic black and white add to my fondness of them. They are a constant reminder to me to be stylish and fabulous as much as possible!

I think I may make this a recurring blog, so if anyone has something to share let me know. I am always interested in new decorating ideas.

Enjoy your week!

thrifty

Now I am not usually one of those people with enough pacience to scour multiple racks, shelves and stacks, but I have somehow become a bit of a thrifter. Most of the stuff I find is usually more comical than anything, however last weekend I did manage to find a few things that struck my fancy!
This was the second time my friend Sarah and myself have visited the Red, White and Blue thrift store in Gladstone, and this time we were prepaired (the first time we didnt know that there are no dressing rooms at the store...whoops). So there we were wearing leggings and tank tops trying on all sorts of things in the middle of the eisle. Many of our choices were not the best once they were off of the hanger, but there were of course a few diamonds in the rough.

This is a crummy picture of an amazing Michael Kors dress I found. It has the most classic shape and it is in mint condition...I am going to get a lot of use out of this!

I also found an adorable short sleeved pink silk cardigan, a hand full of books and a retro half apron.

I'd say it was a very enjoyable and successful adventure:)

...sorry it's been so long...

Wow it is amazing how time can just slip by so fast. My resolution of blogging is in a slump right now, here is my grand effort to get the blogging back in order :)

Last week was an outstanding weather week for Portland, so needless to say I was outside as much as possible. On Friday my roommate Sarah and I took an adventure to the Columbia Gorge for a hike at Multnomah Falls. I love to take my friends who grew up out of state to fun places in Oregon, in hopes that they all will love it as much as I do. Sure enough they usually do :) Anyway, it was a lovely day and we worked our booty's off.

In the 24 1/2 years I have been alive, I have never once hiked to the top of the falls, and I must say it was beautiful! We did the hike because we are training to run a half marathon sometime this year, and we thought this would be such a fun way to squeeze in some cross training, some fresh air and some gossip time too.

On another note, I am also on the look out for some cute and functional workout gear, since some of mine is getting to large...YAY!

These are a few of the awesome things I have found that are sure to make anyone look like a workout guru ;)

A cute and lightweight jacket

The BEST leggings ever, I wear them even when I am not working out!

I wear this base-layer top over my tees
I am a tee shirt person, but this is too cute, and what a fun and cheery color!

This is an amazing raincoat...lightweight a it has vents, perfect for outside workouts

All clothes

I also had an enjoyable time on Saturday afternoon. Sarah and myself went thrifting at Red, White and Blue, a local gem that my dear friend Lauren told me about. We found some treasures, and I can't wait to share them with you...I totally don't have pictures of them yet, so tomorrow will have to be my sharing day:) Hope you all are having a great week so far.

Until next time...XOXO,

Sassy Courtney

...give a little love...

Valentine's day is not until Sunday, but I was lucky enough to celebrate yesterday with my class! The festivities reminded me of how excited I used to get when I was little. All of my students came running into the classroom with a bag of valentine cards in hand yelling, "I BRINGED VALENDAY CARDS!" They also had the biggest smiles plastered to their faces. I officially have a 3 year old Valentine too, one of my boys brought me a rose...so sweet! He also brought one for his 'girlfriend.' It was the cutest thing ever!

spring lovelies

Since winter isn't really happening in Portland for some reason, i can't help but look at all of the amazing pieces of spring clothing that are popping up in the stores. There are a few things i am lusting after...i hope that soon, weather permitting, i will be able to rock these spring staples, or not so staples.

A view of Portland from waterfront park today

...Spring style that is too good to pass by...
grabbing a coffee with a good friend is the perfect excuse to wear this sophisticated yet girly dress. paired with a cute pair of flats and a classic bag would be the perfect finishing touches.

{via}

this is the one spring piece i actually had to break down and purchase already. I love the print, colors and the fact that it is silk in the front and a striped cotton in the back made me fall in love instantly. The contrast of the two materials makes this such a fun, flirty and unique top.

{via}

running errands, lunch dates and even a night on the town are just a few instances that this romper would come in handy for. the versatility is endless.

{via}
As you can see i am obsessed with the bold floral patterns that have been turning up. It is funny because as i am getting older...well 24 isn't old, but you know what i mean...it is becoming easier for me to wear a pattern that is reminiscent of my girly girl childhood. I guess you could say that as time keeps passing i feel that my clothing experimenting keeps growing, its actually very exhilirating. I never know what might strike my fancy that has never before.
cheers to lovely clothes, lovely blog friends and a lovely day!

la comida mexicana

It is officially Mexican night at our house! YAY! I love love love mexican food. I cannot wait for some salsa, tortilla chips and a delicious taco salad. There is just something so fun about creating a meal with friends and enjoying in their company. Needless to say, Margaritas are a great addition to Mexican night too!

You can bet that there will be plenty of Spanish music blaring while the preparations are taking place as well. Here is a little latin flavor to put you in the Mexican food night mood!

celebrity look-a-like

So earlier this week I noticed that many of my friends on facebook had changed their profile pictures to celebrities. Little to my knowledge it is "Doppelgänger Week," which apparently means that you're supposed to change your profile to a picture of the celebrity that you have been told you resemble the most. This made me think... "WHO DO I LOOK LIKE?" I honestly had no clue. I love to hear how different the opinions of others are too! I had to ask my roommates and this is what they came up with:

Lea Michele

I cannot complain, I love her.

{Via}

Kim Kardashian

{Via}

She's gorgeous too, I think my friends are a bit too kind when picking celeb look-a-likes.

Who do you think I look like???

I'd love to hear who you are told resembles you!

love treats

Valentine's day is right around the corner, and I am always looking for sweet little ways to show those around me how much I love them. I stumbled upon a few creative and inexpensive goodies that are sure to make your loved ones feel warm and fuzzy.

This is so simple, and how fun that the candy bags are personalized.

I think my preschoolers would love to see pictures of themselves on the outside of a candy bag!

For the decorator in all of us.

I can see these hanging from wooden coat hooks in a hallway. What an easy way to spread Valentine cheer throughout your home.

For the child inside all of us.

These flower petal/heart lollipop treats are divine. They would look so cute bunched together with some fun ribbon or raffia. I like that they are not the cliche bouquet of roses too.

For the riddler.

The play on words makes truly makes these DIY crafts so charming. Anyone who gives a gift like this will have a very happy recipient.

To warm someone on the inside and outside.

Something as simple as cutting out hearts, adding a special note and placing them on someones favorite tea is just so thoughtful. I love that this is so unexpected, but so very meaningful.

I think I may dig out some of my crafting supplies and get to work now. The way this year is flying by, Valentine's day will be here tomorrow!

XOXO,

Sassy Courtney

today I am smiling because...

I have more than 1 blog friend! Thank you all for your support, this is one more reason to stick to my goal of blogging more.

American Idol is on tonight, and I have high hopes that someone can make me laugh more than the "Pants on the Ground" guy.

The sun is still shinning in the rainy city.

I'm having a great day with all of my preschool friends.

What has made you smile today?

no more brace face

So many of you know I have a sister that is 11 years my junior, and today was the day she got her braces taken off. YAY! I don't think she could have been more excited. she literally told me, "I didn't want to wait until after school, that is too long to wait!" As a 13 year old this is huge, and I had to share with all of you how adorable she looks now... Even though she was a doll with them too.

Congrats Ali!

I was lucky enough to never have to have braces, but for those of you out there who did have them...wow you have to go through a lot of pain. Thank goodness its all worth it in the end.

Enjoy your day, wherever you are!
